POSITION: Communications and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

PositionSummary: St. John's Lutheran Church is seeking a communications professional with abilities in development, digital communication, community outreach, and volunteercoordination within a faith- based, Christ centered organization. Under the general direction of the pastor, the Communications and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator has two primary functions. The first is in communication through both digital and traditional strategies. The second core function is to work alongside St. John's staff to assess and identify volunteer needs, and then recruit, train, and acknowledge volunteers to support the needs of the people of the organization. We seek a person who also understands church life and structure along with regularly engaging with volunteers at Sunday morning worship.

As people of faith, we believe we are called to serve God and the neighbor as the Holy Spirit leads, and therefore, our volunteers are at the core of the ministry and mission of our organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop a communications calendar that will guide organization wide communication efforts and increase positive awareness ofour faith community via social media, traditional media, and networking.

  • Design, create and publish monthly newsletters and other key publications, including layout, content and photos in collaboration with staff and volunteers.

  • Provideregular, ongoing communications to volunteers, and coordinate needs for various programs within our faith community, including necessary communications for weekly worship and other programs throughout the week.

  • Manage our website.

  • Create schedules for volunteers including for worship and otherevents.

  • Attend Sunday worship two times per month to assist volunteers with online media and community engagement.

    Maintain online subscriptions and licenses for worship, education, and congregational ministry needs.

  • Recruit and welcome newvolunteers into the programs and ministries of St. John's.

Miscellaneous Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly staff meetings including leading devotions in the rotation

  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and welcome and direct office visitors

  • Respond to requests for Good Samaritan Fund assistance when Administrative Assistant is unavailable

  • Fill in for the Administrative Assistant during vacations and illness

  • Contact person for the TV Ministry

The Communications and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator takes direction and supervision from the Pastor. The CVE is also responsible to the Personnel Committee. Performance review and goal setting will take place annually with the Personnel Committee.

St. John's Lutheran Church is an "at will" employer; however, under normal circumstances either party may terminate employment with a minimum of 2 weeks written notice. Other terms of employment (including paid time off) will be in accord with the Emplovee Policy Manual of St. John's Lutheran Church.

All employment at St. John's Lutheran Church is contingent upon satisfactory reports from references and a background check run through local law enforcement agencies.
