“Serve one another with love.” Galatians 5:13

 From the St. John’s Constitution:

“The Caring Ministry shall support those members of this congregation who face or who have gone through a major life crisis and need an extra level of support during the period of adjustment to their new life situation.”

Our Mission Statement:

The Caring Ministry will welcome new members into our faith family; assist our congregation members in matters of health (physical, mental, and spiritual); and assist, support, and comfort those in need.

The St. John’s Caring Ministry has three branches to accomplish our goals:

  • New Member Branch
  • This branch works with the pastors to welcome new members into the congregation. They attend the new member classes, get to know new members, and supply a gift to the families on New Member Sundays.
  •
  • Friends in Need Branch
  • This branch sends cards and makes calls to members who have recently been discharged from the hospital, offering their prayers and support.
  •
  • Grief Support Branch
  • This branch sends cards to members after a death in their family. Other supportive mailings are also sent. The Ministry prepares “We Care” bags, which pastors give out at the time of funeral planning.

But Wait….There’s More:  Special Projects

The Caring Ministry members work on projects which the members vote to support. Past projects have included:

  • Providing meals to the families at Sojourner House
  • Providing “Gifts of Caring”: At the pastor’s discretion, helping church members and friends of St. John’s in need of food
  • Sponsoring the “Overcoming Compassion Fatigue” Seminar
  • Collecting food & sundries for CVTC Students & socks & underwear for the homeless
  • Helping with Blood Drives & the Neighbor to Neighbor Rummage Sale
  • Coordinating the Christmas Giving Project, giving gifts to local families and church members in need

Working with the pastors to plan the “Blue Christmas” service each December.

If you’d like to help by caring for our church members in any of the ways mentioned, if you have new ideas of how we can help support our members, or if you are in need of extra support; please leave your name and number in the church office, 715.834.9571 and our chairperson will contact you.
