FAMILY

Milestones

Life is full of important moments, moments that show stepping stone events both in life and faith. At St. John’s, we like to bless those moments, so that these events equip our faith and help us to better understand the God who loves us. Some of the milestones we celebrate are sacramental. Others add meaning to our relationship with others and with God. A milestone may include:

  • Baptism
  • 1st Communion
  • Confirmation (Affirmation of Baptism)
  • Baptismal Anniversary
  • Blessing of the Backpacks (Beginning of the school year)
  • Preschool Bible Presentation
  • Lord’s Prayer (Prayed by the Kindergarten Class)
  • 5th Grade Bible Presentation
  • Driver’s License Blessing
  • Graduation (Senior Year)

Choirs

St. Augustine said, “Singing is praying twice.” Music both enhances our worship to God and embraces our gifts. The youth of St. John’s have many musical gifts and those gifts are meant to be used to the Glory of God.

Sunday School Choir – Led by a group of talented and enthusiastic teachers, the children of Sunday School sing in praise to God and offer their gifts in worship. We learn and sing songs that partner with classroom/worship themes, teach both our musical heritage and new songs, and songs that build us up as a church family. This group regularly offers special music, leads psalms, and teaches/leads new songs to our congregation in worship.

Sunday school

At St. John’s, the Sunday school progam follows the revised lectionary cycle. Each week the students learn about the same lesson that is being preached on during worship.  Students have the opportunity to learn more about the story by utilizing a variety of methods such as art, science, bible games, food, music and/or drama. We have found this provides a positive learning environment for children with a broad scope of learning styles.  Our lessons are based on the Spark curriculum from Augsburg. Preschool and Kindergarten classes meet in a traditional setting but also follow several of the revised lectionary stories. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about Sunday School, please contact Chris Sims, Director of Christian Education.
